The Five-Minute Desk Reset: Move More Comfortably During Your Workday

Movement doesn’t have to wait until the end of the workday. When you spend hours at a desk, small, comfortable movement breaks can help you change positions, notice tension, and make activity part of your normal routine. This is the Verve Wellness Inner Athlete philosophy: build a system you can repeat.

Why movement variety matters

There is no single perfect sitting posture you must hold all day. Instead, give yourself permission to shift positions, stand up, and move in ways that feel comfortable. A brief break is not a substitute for regular exercise, but it can be a practical addition to your day.

Your five-minute desk reset

  1. Minute 1 — Stand and breathe: Rise from your chair, relax your shoulders, and take a few easy breaths.
  2. Minute 2 — Walk: Walk to refill your water or make a short loop around your workspace.
  3. Minute 3 — Shoulder circles: Slowly circle your shoulders in both directions without forcing the range.
  4. Minute 4 — Gentle upper-body rotation: Turn your torso comfortably to each side while keeping the movement easy.
  5. Minute 5 — Reset your workspace: Adjust your chair, screen, and work position for comfort before returning.

Skip or modify any movement that causes pain, dizziness, or other symptoms. Seek individualized guidance if you have an injury or medical concern.

Build a repeatable routine

Choose a realistic trigger: after a meeting, between tasks, or when you refill your water. You do not need a perfect schedule. Start with one break per workday and build from there.

Inner Athlete Challenge

For the next five workdays, take one intentional five-minute movement break. Note when you took it, what felt comfortable, and which trigger made it easiest to remember. Keep what works.

Move better. Recover well. Live brighter.
